A pageant is just a pageant. It makes good television. Viewers get to see beautiful women and great (or tacky) gowns.
But some contestants are actually pretty smart. Many have gone on to become successful in their fields of study. Some have gone on to become politicians (e.g., Sarah Palin). Same thing with fashion models. Some of them are quite smart. There was one Russian model in the 90s whose parents were both nuclear physicists.Do Beauty Queens serve any pourpose in society?
