In 1943 my mother was a WAC & won a military beauty contest in Ft. Oglethorpe GA. Does anyone have any infor?

What was the rationale, what was the criteria, how long did the army conduct these contests, etcIn 1943 my mother was a WAC %26amp; won a military beauty contest in Ft. Oglethorpe GA. Does anyone have any infor?
The best thing to do is to go the the military archives at Ft. Oglethorpe. You may have to go to the commander to get that information and forms to be signed for the release of the information.

Don't know about the World War Two days. But, even as late as the early 1970s, the Defense Advisory Committee On Women In The Services (DACOWITS) held an annual ';Miss Armed Forces'; competition. I was an escort officer for the competition held in Philadelphia in 1970. No swim suits or talent segments. But, as a male, even I felt uncomfortable about it. Especially since all of the members of DACOWITS are female.
